October 2007 - First Race: Zolder

For most teams Zolder was the final race of the 2008 season. However, for Gigawave MotorSport it was their first ever FIA GT Championship outing. Formed just a few months ago Steve Hagger, Fenton Yeulett and the team have been working long hours to prepare the car for Zolder

Despite the huge amount of effort in terms of preparation, any chances of a podium place were dashed when, at the end of the Saturday's first practice session, the Gigawave MotorSport team had to change the engine of their Aston Martin DBR9. This meant that the team's two drivers, Luke Hines and Philipp Peter, missed the second practice session. Despite this, the team still managed to qualify for eleventh position on the grid.

Starting the race from the rear of the grid, as a penalty for changing the engine, Philipp Peter worked his way up into the top ten cars before having to retire on lap 29 as the result of a broken propshaft.

Commenting on the race, a spokesperson for the Gigawave MotorSport team said:
"We did not come here expecting to win, or even get a podium place. Whilst it is disappointing not to have finished our first race, we are delighted with the way that the team has performed. Zolder has been a huge learning curve and the lessons that we have learnt will be invaluable in terms of our preparations for next season."
