Gigawave MotorSport’s excellent start to the FIA GT Championship continued with a top-six finish and three more Championship points.
In extreme heat and deteriorating light conditions, drivers Philipp Peter and Allan Simonsen brought the DBR9 home in sixth place, making it the only car in its marque to finish. This was despite the car carrying 40kg of handicap weight.
Team Principal Fenton Yeulett commented, “I’m delighted with the result after racing in such arduous conditions and pleased that our weights penalty has now been reduced. Our pit stops once again were faultless which aided our race strategy.”
Philipp Peter who started and finished the race said the conditions were challenging. “The first stint was so hard because of the heat and I had a problem with my water bottle so I was getting dehydrated. The car felt very lazy when cornering due to our extra ballast so we’re pretty happy to pick up more points.”
Allan Simonsen felt that sixth place was a good result considering the handicap weight the car was carrying. “It’s the best of bad situation, with the result we now lose 40kg of success ballast and we still gain a valuable three points. We obviously struggled for speed with the extra weight.”
The tight track suited the Corvette Z06 cars, with three finishing in the top four. The Corvette's of German team, Phoenix Racing of Germany took first and third place, with the Maserati MC 12 of Vitaphone Racing coming second.
Gigawave MotorSport has now secured 15 points in the FIA GT Championship after just three races. Round 4 takes place at Oschersleben in Germany on July 6th.

After two podium finishes in the first two races of the 2008 FIA GT Championship, Gigawave MotorSport will start Round 3 from 7th place at Adria.
Philipp Peter braved the extreme heat to qualify the Aston Martin DBR9 second in class. The Corvette ZO6 of Phoenix Racing took pole position with a lap time of 1:11.731. The two-hour night race begins at 19.50 local time.

After two podium finishes in the first two races of the 2008 FIA GT Championship, Gigawave MotorSport heads to Adria – and aims to hold onto its record as the only team to finish in the top three in each race this season.
Gigawave MotorSport Team Principal, Fenton Yeulett, believes Adria represents very different challenges from the previous two rounds. “Silverstone and Monza are fast, flowing circuits, which suited the Aston Martin DBR9 very well. Adria, however, is the opposite. Its tight corners and short straights will make the set-up of the car quite a challenge. We have not been here before, which means there’s a lack of data to help us decide on the best set-up for the car. It will put our abilities to the test.”
The car will also be carrying 40kg of handicap weight, which driver Philipp Peter feels will have a big impact on performance. “Because of our race success so far this season, we have even more ballast in the car and this will make a huge difference on a track like this. As a driver, you can really notice the extra weight on acceleration, while our braking points will be earlier as there is more car to slow down.”
The race is due to start at 19.50 local time but fellow driver, Allan Simonsen, who raced at the Le Mans 24 Hours last week, feels this won’t be an issue. “The fact that this is an evening race should make things interesting. I have a lot of experience of racing at night but I don’t know exactly how dark the circuit will be, so I’ll just take it as any other race. Sometimes the car will be quicker at night due to the lower temperatures which can increase the horsepower of the engine.”
Gigawave MotorSport is currently joint second in the 2008 FIA GT Championship with 12 points.
